What Each Participating Company Brings to This Project

▶Mitsui Fudosan
Mitsui Fudosan has long promoted inspiring urban development by harnessing the power of sports and entertainment. In addition, its Commercial Facilities Department, which had been responsible for the development, sales, and operation of commercial facilities, was renamed the Commercial Facilities, Sports, and Entertainment Department effective April 1, 2024, and LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY and the Tokyo Dome were added to its scope of business. Fiscal 2024 marks the first year of creating new value by combining the appeal and excitement of commercial facilities with sports and entertainment.

For more than 40 years, they have been advancing mixed-use urban development in the Minami-Funabashi area through a wide range of businesses, including commercial facilities such as Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport TOKYO-BAY, an indoor skating rink, housing, and logistics facilities. With the opening of this arena, they will continue to harness the power of sports and entertainment in the Minami-Funabashi area and strive to provide an environment where people can enjoy memorable experiences through a variety of events, as well as shopping and dining before and after those events, throughout the day.

In addition, they will pursue a variety of initiatives tied to events at LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY, commercial facilities such as LaLaport TOKYO-BAY, and the Mitsui Shopping Park official online store: “Mitsui Shopping Park &mall”, to deliver the best possible customer experience.

▶MIXI
Since its founding, MIXI has provided communication services designed to be enjoyed with close friends and family, and now operates mainly in three segments: Sports, Lifestyle, and Digital Entertainment.

Within the Sports segment, which includes this arena business, we operate publicly-managed betting sports businesses, including platforms for betting ticket sales, as well as spectator sports and team management businesses, including the management of the professional sports teams the CHIBAJETS and FC TOKYO. This arena will serve as the home arena of the CHIBAJETS.

At MIXI, we see sports as a form of content that fosters the enriching communication we have valued since our founding. By leveraging the technology that has long been our main strength, we aim to create an environment where people can experience sports up close and help build a world where they can share in the excitement. Operating an arena facility will be a new challenge for MIXI. But with communication at the core of this business, we will position the arena as a place where communities can grow among visitors and where people can enjoy a spectator experience unlike any other.

Through this arena business, we will fulfill MIXI’s Purpose: Enriching communication and inspiring moments of joy, and our Mission: To provide space and opportunity for truly meaningful connections.

Overview of LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY

This arena is a large, multipurpose venue with four above-ground floors, a total floor area of approximately 31,000 m², and a seating capacity of 10,000. It features an installed movable center video display and ribbon video displays surrounding the arena, enabling a wide range of staging possibilities.

▶Exterior and Interior Design
Using LaLaport’s port motif and the jet aircraft that also inspired the CHIBAJETS’ team name as design resources, the design was created to convey a sense of dynamism. The exterior features perforated aluminum panels inspired by a ship’s wake and jet streams, creating this dynamic impression. The arena adopts a sunken bowl design intended to make performers and players feel closer to the audience during music concerts, professional basketball games, and other events.

CHIBAJETS FUNABASHI’s New Home Arena

▶The CHIBAJETS will use this arena as their home arena from the 2024-25 season on

CHIBAJETS FUNABASHI is a professional basketball team in Division 1 of the B.LEAGUE that has had a partnership agreement with MIXI since 2017 and has worked alongside MIXI as a group company since 2019. Starting with the 2024-25 season, the team will use this arena as its home arena.

Since the launch of the B.LEAGUE in 2016, CHIBAJETS FUNABASHI has ranked No. 1 in attendance for four consecutive seasons. The club has also delivered strong results, winning the Emperor’s Cup five times in total, including three straight titles starting in 2017 and two straight titles since last year. In league play, it captured its first championship at the B.LEAGUE FINALS 2020-21, and last season it set new B1 League records with 24 consecutive wins and the highest winning percentage at 88.3% with a 53-7 record. The club continues to grow into a powerhouse, becoming the first Japanese team to win the EASL title in the 2023-24 season.

All this time, attendance at CHIBAJETS home games has increased, and many fans who wanted to attend were unable to purchase tickets, highlighting challenges in improving the game-day experience. Compared with the current Funabashi Arena, this arena will have roughly twice the seating capacity, allowing more fans to enjoy CHIBAJETS games.

Together with the CHIBAJETS, this arena will help foster a culture of watching sports and provide a venue and space that people will want to return to again and again, with planning that is attentive to the needs of both visitors and event organizers. By connecting broadly with people across generations and backgrounds, we will create value not just as a place to watch sports, but as a place to spend time.

▶B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2025 Announced
In July 2023, it was announced that this arena had been selected as the venue for the B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2025*. The B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME brings together star players from across the B.LEAGUE. We will offer basketball fans from all over Japan a spectacular event through this arena’s state-of-the-art facilities and hospitality. Through the B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2025, we aim to deliver the best all-star game in history, giving visitors the chance to experience not only this arena, but also the appeal of the surrounding area and Funabashi City.

*An all-star game hosted by B.LEAGUE. It is held on a rotating basis at team locations across Japan.

Comment From Head Coach John Patrick
The opening of LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY will mark a new start for basketball in Japan and for the CHIBAJETS. I think it will be a hugely significant event. It will be able to accommodate more than twice as many people as Funabashi Arena, and the facilities will be much better equipped with the latest technology. Everyone is really looking forward to it.

Comment From Yuki Togashi
I’m excited because I think the new arena will help B.LEAGUE become even more exciting. It has already been decided that B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2025 will be held here, and I hope it becomes a place where even more people can enjoy basketball.
