MIXI Establishes CAIO (Chief AI Officer) Role to Oversee Company-Wide AI Strategy
Moving to the Next Phase After the Company Achieved a 99% AI Adoption Rate: Director Tatsuma Murase Appointed to Translate AI into Business Value
Tokyo, Japan, July 31, 2026—MIXI, Inc. announces that at its Board of Directors meeting held today, it resolved to establish the position of Chief AI Officer (CAIO) and appoint director and senior corporate officer Tatsuma Murase to the role, effective August 1, 2026.

Why We Are Establishing the CAIO Role
While many companies are experimenting with and adopting AI technologies such as generative AI, we have already reached the stage where all employees use AI on a daily basis. Centered on our company-wide AI Promotion Committee*, we have driven AI adoption not only in development, but also across our business and corporate divisions, embedding it into everyday operations. As a result, in FY2026, our overall AI utilization rate exceeded 99%, achieving annual cost savings of approximately 1 billion yen.
Now that AI use has taken root across the company, our focus is shifting from simply using AI to creating business value with it. Given our belief that the next two to three years will determine whether we can successfully make this transition, we decided that an executive is needed to oversee initiatives emerging from all parts of the company and translate them into business value.
Going forward, we will further strengthen our efforts to create new value across our Sports, Lifestyle, and Digital Entertainment businesses by building AI-native experiences and embedding AI into our existing services.
*A company-wide cross-functional body composed primarily of management, heads of business sections, and appointed ambassadors from each division, responsible for driving AI adoption and tracking the implementation progress of AI initiatives.
The Responsibilities of the CAIO
The changes brought about by AI extend beyond parts of the company focused on development to affect how work is done across all roles, including planning, design, legal, HR, finance, and customer support. In this environment, the CAIO is an executive-level position with ultimate responsibility for AI across the company, driving corporate value creation. The responsibilities of the role are as follows:
● Formulating and driving company-wide AI strategy
● Driving business value creation through AI
● Overseeing AI governance
● Developing AI-native organizational and talent foundations
● Cross-functionally driving technological development, AI infrastructure development, and
operational transformation
About the Appointee
Tatsuma Murase has led the company in the area of technology for many years, supporting business growth from the technical side. He currently serves as chair of the AI Promotion Committee, leading company-wide AI adoption and driving partnerships with leading companies in the AI field, while also taking on both management and AI promotion as a director. To further advance business development that links AI more closely with management strategy, he has now been appointed CAIO.
Comment from Tatsuma Murase
“We have worked to create an environment where all employees use AI on a daily basis, and our company-wide AI utilization rate has exceeded 99%. However, I see this not as the goal, but as the starting line. The changes brought about by AI are affecting all job categories and roles simultaneously, not just development roles like engineers and designers. That is precisely why we need a role to drive AI strategy across the entire company. Furthermore, I believe the next two to three years will be the critical window to translate AI into value for our businesses and user experiences. As CAIO, I will connect technology, business, and management to accelerate our company-wide initiatives more than ever, aiming to make MIXI a one-of-a-kind presence that creates communication experiences that provide ’connection with meaning’.“
