A new model recognized at the CES Innovation Awards® 2025 in the United States will be exhibited at Europe’s largest international consumer electronics trade fair

Tokyo, Japan, August 26, 2025 — MIXI, Inc. will exhibit a new model of its conversational AI robot Romi, the Romi Lacatan model, at IFA 2025, the international consumer electronics trade fair to be held in Berlin, Germany from September 5 to 9, 2025. Romi is being developed with the goal of becoming a companion that comforts like a pet and understands like family. This exhibit will be part of a joint exhibit in the IFA Next SusHi Tech Tokyo zone (booth H25-256).

Romi Lacatan comes equipped with a visual function that allows it to share what it is seeing with you and carry on a conversation, enabling natural communication that goes beyond words and comes from being together in the same space. Another key advancement is its enhanced long-term memory function, which remembers everyday events and builds shared memories over time like a member of the family. By bringing those accumulated memories into its conversations, Romi makes it easier for users to feel the reassurance that it understands them and to experience an even deeper emotional connection.

Romi Lacatan, selected as an Honoree for the CES Innovation Awards 2025, an award given to products that earn top scores in each category, will be physically displayed at a European trade show for the first time. Visitors will be able to experience the cutting edge of AI that stays close to people through Romi’s rich, lifelike expressiveness, with facial expressions and gestures that change in response to conversation, as well as a deeper form of communication that goes beyond relying solely on words generated in the moment, as Romi understands what it sees.

New Features for Romi Lacatan

1. Optical Recognition

When its owner tells Romi Lacatan that they have something to show it, AI converts what Romi Lacatan sees at that moment into text. Based on that information, our proprietary conversational AI generates a response, enabling natural back-and-forth conversation with visual context. In addition, the camera’s field of view and image quality have been upgraded from previous models to support communication that makes use of visual information.

2. Long-Term Memory

3. Natural Conversational Timing and Listening Cues

4. Natural, Human-Like Voice

Romi Lacatan has many voice options including the base voice and several other voices. The newly added voices are developed inhouse using deep learning technology and are characterized by how human they sound. The new voices are smooth, feature natural intonation, and even make it seem like Romi Lacatan is breathing, making conversations between the two of you even more natural.
