Work System

Marble Work Style

In July 2020, we began to experiment with what we call “Marble Work”, a new style of working that combined remote and office work. We officially implemented this style in April 2022.

Starting April 2023, we further expanded our work style by officially implementing “Marble Location”, in which employees can work at the location of their choice during a fixed period. In addition, we rescinded our core hours and introduced full-flex work hours on a trial basis.

Our goal is to maximize productivity while respecting the varied lifestyles and values of our employees.

■ Overview of the Marble Work Style
1. Each division can decide the optimal frequency of in-office work, with full remote work also being a possibility

2. Flextime system
Standard work hours: 10:00-19:00 with a one-hour break
 Core hours*: 12:00-15:00

3. Transportation expenses of up to 150,000 yen per month are covered (this includes airplane and bullet train fare)

■ Implementing the Marble Work Style
In order to allow employees more flexibility in choosing the best work environment for their productivity, we have officially implemented “Marble Location”. In addition to working from their office or home, Marble Location makes it possible for employees to work for up to one month at a location of their choice. This system was introduced on a trial basis from July to October 2022 and has been confirmed to meet a certain level of effectiveness and demand. As no major problems were foreseen, we decided to formally implement this system.

■ Trial Implementation of Full-Flex Work Hours
In order to allow employees more flexibility in working hours and commitment to complete their work, we have removed core hours from the current flextime system and introduced a full-flex work hour system on a trial basis. We plan to conduct employee surveys during and after the trial period to verify the effectiveness of this system, and then consider formally implementing it.

Supporting Families

Childcare

Maternity Leave, Childcare Leave, Shortened Working Hours
So that employees don’t have to worry about balancing work and childcare following maternity leave, employees can take childcare leave until the child is two years old. And with shorter working hours, they can focus on childcare until the child reaches the end of the third grade of elementary school.

Assistance With Sick Children and Babysitting
For those with children that aren’t old enough to enter elementary school, we subsidize 50% of the cost when they use childcare services such as care for sick children, babysitting companies, and family support services during work hours.

Nursing Care
Employees may take nursing care leave in accordance with the Act on Childcare Leave, Caregiver Leave, and Other Measures for the Welfare of Workers Caring for Children or Other Family Members. In addition, the company has established in its employment regulations a provision for shortened working hours for nursing care, which allows employees to reduce their daily working hours to six hours, or as otherwise agreed upon by the company and the employee.

Special Benefits for Employees
As part of the “Partnership for Living” program, MIXI has entered into agreements with companies that provide lifestyle services to offer special corporate benefits. Employee discounts are available for services of partner companies.
We support the diverse range of workstyles of our employees by partnering with companies that offer services including housekeeping to promote work-life balance, home-delivery dry cleaning that is convenient when the seasons change, and clinics that provide fertility-related consultation, examinations, and medical care.

Internal Communication

To make it easier for employees with children to communicate with each other, employees have created a “kosodate” channel in the “Slack” communication tool to freely exchange information and experiences on child-rearing.

In addition, several times a year, a “Childcare Goods Exchange” is held in an office seminar room during lunch break. Employees who no longer need items such as children’s clothes, toys, shoes, consumables, etc. as their children grow up are asked to bring them to the exchange for anyone who needs them. The event is held during lunch break so that employees can interact with each other freely over lunch.

Office

MIXI relocated its head office to Shibuya Scramble Square in March 2020.
The concept for the new office was “For Communication”. Furthermore, to realize this concept, we have established three roles and designed our facilities and environment to fulfill each of these roles.
