SUSTAINABILITY

Providing space and opportunity for communication with Monster Strike

Monster Strike is a mobile game where up to four friends can play together. Since its launch in 2013, it has been enabling users to have fun while communicating with friends and family.

When we started development of Monster Strike, smartphones were quickly becoming ubiquitous. We began to brainstorm new services that could incorporate smartphones with the communication expertise that we had cultivated from our social network mixi. One of those ideas was Monster Strike. The enduring ethos of the service is to provide anyone with a smartphone exciting opportunities for communication with friends and family—anytime, anywhere.

Monster Strike as an eSport

We have been holding eSports tournaments for Monster Strike, the first of which being Monster Strike Grandprix in 2015. Monster Strike Stadium is a version of the game specifically tailored for eSports, where a team of up to four players competes against another team to see who can clear the chosen stage faster. The teams do not attack each other, but rather each team’s goal is to work together to beat the stage as quickly as possible, with communication being the key to speed.

As a free game with no pay-to-win elements, Monster Strike Stadium can be played by anyone who as access to a smartphone or tablet. Ensuring an even playing field is a critical facet of the game, with all characters being available immediately upon installing the app.

Due to being free, fair, and only requiring a smartphone or tablet, the tournaments have attracted adults, children, and even families. Regardless of gender and age, it’s easy for anyone to participate. Monster Strike Stadium has been selected by both government agencies and local governments for large-scale eSports tournaments, such as Japan’s National eSports Championship—where a representative team from each region participates—and Tokyo eSports Festa—whose executive committee includes the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

We also offer various types of support to businesses and local governments through our tournament support program, helping them manage Monster Strike eSports tournaments which strengthen bonds between friends and families.
