Providing new spectator experiences through advanced video technology

Since entering the sports business in 2019, we have focused on developing technologies related to video broadcasting and production. These efforts have included the commercial use of local 5G networks enabled by the acquisition of local 5G radio station licenses, as well as the automation of race video editing for publicly-managed betting sports using AI. In recent years, we have also been developing technologies utilizing indoor positioning systems (IPS), including the implementation of an auto-tracking camera system that combines IPS and AI image analysis at Kanku Ice Arena to help athletes improve their performance.
Building on this expertise, we developed an in-house streaming platform that combines multi-camera AR with video delivery and analytics technologies. The platform was put into practical use during the live broadcast of the BV.LEAGUE DIG CUP Presented by MIXI (DIG CUP) beach volleyball tournament held in March 2026. Live sports broadcasting that combines a multi-camera AR-compatible sports coder with video delivery and analytics technologies represents a pioneering initiative in Japan.

■Streaming platform combining multi-camera AR with video delivery and analytics technologies

<Multi-Camera AR>
For the tournament livestream, we introduced multi-camera AR, a technology that seamlessly integrates virtual objects into the court area. This allows AR objects to maintain the appearance of existing naturally within the court, even in a multi-camera production environment where feeds are switched between multiple cameras. As a result, the AR visuals remain consistently aligned with the court and appear natural even when the viewing angle changes. The AR presentation was also designed to take advantage of the depth of the court, creating three-dimensional visual effects that respond dynamically to player movements and developments in the game. This approach enhances the viewing experience by delivering intuitive and engaging visual content while maintaining clear visibility of the match from multiple camera angles.

<Video Delivery and Analytics Technologies>
In addition to the visual enhancements provided by multi-camera AR, we implemented the following technologies to deliver match information more clearly and in closer to real time.

・Sports coder (Integrated AR effects and information displays)
We implemented our proprietary sports coder※1, which supports AR effects and integrates scoreboard information via OCR. The sports coder also features real-time display of heart rate data collected from sensors worn by players. By providing information about player condition as supplementary viewing data and linking visual effects with informational displays, the system delivers a viewing experience that more effectively conveys the intensity and key moments of the match.

※1. Sports coder: a system used during live sports broadcasts to input scores and deliver on-screen graphics and information

・AI scoreboard OCR (Automatic score updates)
AI image analysis is used to process live video of the venue’s scoreboard in real time, automatically capturing score information through OCR.※² This enables score displays to be updated more quickly, making it easier for viewers to follow the progress of the match.

※2)Optical Character Recognition (OCR): automatically reading text in an image and converting it into computer-readable text data

・AI ball tracking (Improved visibility and replay enhancement)
Using AI technology, the system tracks the ball in real time during matches. Even when the ball overlaps with AR objects, the system recognizes occlusion (depth relationships) to ensure natural and accurate rendering. The technology also supports features such as ball trajectory visualization during replays, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from visual effects to analytical purposes.

Leveraging our expertise in video streaming technologies in areas such as AR and sports coders, we will continue our efforts to enhance the sports viewing experience. By working closely with sports organizations and others to create viewing experiences that more effectively showcase the excitement and appeal of competition, we aim to deliver sports entertainment that brings people together through a shared passion for sports. Looking ahead, we plan to further develop these technologies and expand their application across a wide range of sports, including publicly-managed betting sports.
